That Little White Pill is NOT Mother's Helper

So I will probably sound like a derelict mother or at the very least a pathetic housekeeper, but we had an incident last night. I should mention 2 things (well first that Danny is fine), #1. My dog is an epileptic and we have had him on phenobarb for years and only recently stopped because we did not feel he was benefitting from the meds and they were potentially damaging his liver. He also developed the habit of spitting them out and as we discovered this he would start holding them in his mouth and then spit them out when we weren't looking. And #2. My Danny is a human Hoover. If it's not bolted down this child will eat it. I have had several people comment to me at how hysterical his eating habits are and how he eats everything!!
You can see where this is going right?
So last night as I was making eggs for dinner, b/c that is what Jacob wanted (at least that's what I assumed as he cracked an egg into a cup), Danny was scouring the kitchen floor for crumbs and scraps. No big deal I had just swept and did a quick visual sweep of the area. All of a sudden I see Ddanny reach his hand under the fridge and then go right to his mouth.
My reaction..."What the hell did he put in his mouth now?!"
I reached over and picked him up and thought I saw a half a white pill. CRAP!! I reached ina nd tried to scoop it out, but it was too late..he had swallowed. So what's a mom to do. I rammed my fingers down his throat and induced vomiting (apparently a no-no according to Poison control, but I figured since it was a pill it was OK to do). Anyway I called Poison Control and told them I thought my 9 month old may have swallowed 1/2 of a gram phenobarb. We discussed and decided that since I wasn't positive and I felt comfortable watching him I would do just that...observe. I was to watch for signs of drowsiness and call back if I noticed anything odd. Well my little man who usually falls asleep around 7/7:30 crashed at 6:15. Speed dial Poison Control back and I inform them that he has fallen asleep, but I am able to rouse him although he is groggy. Since I am able to wake him we again decide to wait and observe. I kept waking him and boy was he getting pissed off. At about 7:30 he was back to himself and wide awake. I watched him all night and he is fine thank God!!
Tonight I was in the kitchen and Danny took a stick (part of a toy) and scaped under the fridge. Not only did the biggest dust bunny I had ever seen emerge, but a Kix cereal and a little white pill. Danny grabbed for both, I grabbed for Danny. The kitchen is officially off limits until Ethan and I can move the appliances and clean for any lost Loki pills. I now am positive Danny had a pill last night and I think my inducing his vomiting may have saved us a trip to the ER and a long painful night of IV's, possibly charcoal and bloodwork. We are very fortunate and I feel like a foolish mommy for letting something so stupid happen, but I necer realized that it was that nasty under my fridge in areas where I could not reach yet tiny hands could.

That is a good lesson for me! I have been trying to be better at getting under things and crevices and stuff, but Liam is just like Danny he finds EVERYTHING.
Sometimes I don't even know where he got it. And he's fast, too! I swear I'm watching him and things still go in his mouth.

My first daugher stuck NOTHING into her mouth (even food on most days), my second one sounds like she could rival Danny for Hoover baby of the year.

Glad he's OK!!

I am so glad Danny is ok. He is so lucky you saw him do it. I love his nickname....human hoover. Give him a big hug for me.
